Is this a movie?
No, this is NOT The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We’re doing the live stage production of The Rocky Horror Show complete with actors and live band. The stage production is a musical with music, lyrics and book by Richard O’Brien. An homage to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s – early 1970s. The musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, unveiling his new creation – a fully grown, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky. The original musical was adapted into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, starring O’Brien as Riff Raff; the film has the longest-running release in film history.
I’ve seen the movie/stage production before and the audience interacts with the actors and throws things at certain parts of the show. Will that happen at this show?
Absolutely! What’s Rocky Horror without audience participation in the form of callbacks and props? “Audience Goody Bags” with approved participation props will be for SALE at the theater.
Can I bring my own props?
Short answer – NO. For safety reasons, we are not allowing people to bring their own props. The Iao Theater is a 94 year old historic theater listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The theater has raked seating; the angled floors can get very slippery and dangerous should things like rice or other food stuffs be thrown around. We have compiled an “Audience Goody Bag” with approved participation props. These goody bags will be for sale at the theater. We will post a list of the audience props included in the goody bag and callbacks very soon!
Can I wear a costume?
Not only CAN you wear a costume, we’d LOVE for you to wear a costume! Dress up like one of the main characters, a Transylvanian, or just wear your Halloween costume for all we care. Everyone is welcome in whatever form they choose to come! All we ask is that you leave the near-nudity to the actors. Mahalo!
Are children allowed?
The Rocky Horror Show is NOT recommended for children under 18. This is a VERY, VERY adult show. It’s raunchy, vulgar and weird. There will be simulated sex, violence and gore. We are producing The Rocky Horror Show in all it’s wild and crazy glory as it was meant to be. We are not forbidding people to bring their children, but please do your research on this show so you know what you are getting into if you bring your kids. Just saying!
